Dallas Day 2 Part 1

Hi,

This was a big day so this is a long blog. Hang in there.

First the hotel- The Joule. Rose says it isn't great but it is comfortable if overly grand.

It is always a privilege and a treat to visit the homes and collections of people who love art and especially for people who love art jewelry. Today we visited 4 homes of the most gracious, knowledgable and generous families in Dallas. They were Marguerite Hoffman,  Catherine Rose, Cindy and Howard Rachofsky, and Deedie Rose. Three of these families have joined forces to pledge their collections to go to the Dallas Museum of Art. So that means we were going to see museum quality art in homes which is really special.

But before we get started we squeezed in a visit to the studio of Kat Cole who is one of the few jewelers in Houston whose reputation brings her to our attention. She finds an attentive audience.

On the way to the permanent collection of Boston MFA

The first house was a traditional brick house with a really beautiful garden.

We walked around the side of the house and through the garden...

Until we got to the building behind the house which was a simple modern one story and inviting space.

Marguerite Hoffman greeted us at the door and told us a little about her collection and about the vision her late husband and she had for giving the collection to the Dallas Museum. The installation changes every year in both the house and in this display space.

After that amazing house and collection we boarded the bus and made our way to the home of Catherine Rose to be greeted by Catherine after a walk under some amazing old oaks. Catherine started her collection with photographs and I didn't really take any images of them but there were many great ones. I concentrated on the objects. The art jewelry was mixed into the art collection laying on tables and hanging throughout the rooms.
