Venice Day 5

 Hi,

Today we went to several different locations to see shows around the city. I walked around 13,000 steps and was pretty exhausted. It was a cloudy morning and just gorgeous.

Our first stop was an Ai Weiwei show in a cathedral not far from our hotel. This large hanging piece is all glass.

The cathedral has a garden with veggies and chickens plus these very cheery zinnias

We took a Vaporetto across the waters to a show by:

I felt sorry for Claire because I couldn't help but compare these paintings to Marlene Dumas'. The expressions all seemed the same without the amazing variety of Marlene's.

The Côte d'Ivoire Pavillion was something we just stumbled upon. The show was called The Dreams of a Story.

These are all flags of different countries

Then a Bruce Nauman show I felt obligated to see but since it was mostly videos I knew it was going to be a challenge. And it was.

The best part of the Nauman show was from the roof of the building. There was a sound piece in the space which kept repeating 'For the children.

Then I met Antonella Villanova and her assistant for lunch at a wonderful restaurant called La Caravella. It had a lovely open-air courtyard.

Antonella wanted to see the Marlene Dumas show so we all walked over to the Palazzo Grassi. I was delighted to see it again myself. Here are a few paintings I didn't show the last time or that I just noticed.
The Visitor
The Particularity of Nakedness
Die Baba
These paintings were a collaboration between Marlene and her daughter, Helena when she was 5 years old.
       The Drunk                                                   The Occult Revival
Snow White and the next Generation
See no Evil
The Ritual with doll
The Old Woman's Despair
Great Men- Way more than I remembered from my last post
