Munich 2023 Day 4

 Hi,

Dinner last night with Martina Simeti from the Milan gallery was lots of fun. We talked about the job of running a gallery which is always interesting to me but things are so different now. You might recall that I never had a website for example.... can you believe it? Anyway, she has an exciting program that Schobinger fits right in.

So today is a big day. I will spend it at the Messe where the exhibition of Schmuck takes place. I will see many dealers and artists I love and spend time talking with them to understand what they are doing or how or why they made a specific piece. For me, this is the best and most exciting thing to do for a day.

I started out in a taxi with a talkative Italian taxi driver.

The first place I usually visit is Sofia Bjorkman's Platina gallery booth at Frame. This is what the gallery area is called that 'frames' the Schmuck exhibition. Sofia is not only a gallery owner but also a jeweler as well as a mother and wife. I really have no idea how you do that many things in a day.

The following images are from her booth.

Group show - Bjorkman, Lehtinen, Mouritzen and Saabye

Pernille Mouritzen

Helena  Lehtinen

Felieke van der Lees

Matt Lambert

Mari Ishikawa

Kim Buck

                                                                            Lori Talcott

Next I stopped at Rosi Jaeger's booth which was tastefully arranged as always. We looked at some early work by Bettina Dittlemann when she was first investigating wire. This first piece had a phrase on the back which I could only see once Bettina came along and helped figure it out. Then as if by magic there it was. Sorry but it is impossible to photograph.

Rosi also had three wonderful pieces by Otto Kunkli including this king.
and this wing -  an old wooden wing from some furniture?

and she also had a few wonderful rings by Ester Brinkmann.

Next I stopped in at Tinsel Gallery from South Africa and the theme of the show was 'There is no Place like Home'.

Here are some of the jewelry they were showing.
Anton Huenis - these are quail eggs painted.

Samantha Vincent

Geraldine Fenn- she was also selected for Schmuck

Geraldine Fenn also one of the two owners of the gallery

Eric Loubser - the other owner- this is referring to the silent protests in China where they just showed blank paper

Next I stopped in to see Gallery O from Korea owned by Miwha Oh

Joohee Han

Healim Shin

Shinyeong Kim

Emmi Chun

Then on to the Schmuck exhibition itself. It is located in a large space with cases that don't work well for photographs so some of these I shot from images in the catalog.

Jimena Rios

Celilia Richard- Prayer candles

Lisa Walker

Rabbits by Jutta Kallfelz

Sebastien Carre

After that I stopped into Galerie Noel Guyomarc'h where MF bought this necklace.

Despo Sophocleous - flat when worn

and rolled up when held.

And finally - I stopped numerous times at Galerie Marzee to look at everything but I just decided to buy these two pieces by Otto Kunzli.

So I returned to the hotel to start the blog and then went to dinner downstairs at Sofia's - the restaurant in the hotel and had dinner with Antonella Villanova and her assistant. I like them both very much. She brought me a ring by Schobinger to have a look at. I'm not sure I should get this ring which is a rosary with a cross and a figure of Mary on the other side in the same day as I get a Kunzli cross.

That's all folks.

See you next time.

Hugs,
Susan
