Lisbon 2024

 Hi,

I am traveling again and this time Rose has come along. Yeah!

We are in Lisbon for the second Jewellery Biennale. This time's theme is a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution which freed Portugal from the authoritarian dictatorship of Estado Novo. It was a military coup on April 25, 1974. So all the featured shows have an underlying theme of politics, revolution, or something related.

We are staying at the Four Seasons as usual.

View from the hotel.

We had dinner with some friends- Marta Costa Reis, Patricia Domingues, and Monica Gaspar on Monday night at the hotel (Rose is missing from the photo because she took it) and ended the meal with the Portuguese custard tart sprinkled with cinnamon. They are small but don't look like it in this photo.

Here we are all at dinner.

There were lots of flowers on display as we have seen and also lots of art. I am not really sure I understand how they all go together. What do you think you would call the art? Is it Russian Constructivism? with a Japanese influence? How are they related?

                                                                            Tile work

More ceramics coming off the wall

I don't get it. If you do please clue me in.

Anyway, we started the next day walking down the tiled streets. Imagine how much work it took to make those.

We will start looking at jewelry shows tomorrow. I'll catch up with you then.

Big hug,

Susan
