Hi,
This was a slightly less interesting day for me, so I will just show you some things I found interesting. However, I did skip a lot. There were two shopping stops, and you know how I hate shopping, so...
First, I want to point out that every house in Cape Town has walls with barbed wire on top around them.
There is a lot of variety to the walls and the wire, but they are always there.
We visited the studio of Conrad Hicks in a building called The Bijou. He is a blacksmith and he showed us his process, which involves fire and strong muscles, and giant chunks of copper or other metals. It was very dramatic.
He also did this show in the entry to his studio.
There was also a potter in the same building but I don't know their name.
Conrad is explaining his working methods and showing us work he has completed.
Design for a gate he made
Pulling the metal out of the kiln.
Hot block of copper
There is a machine he is using that slowly compresses the copper block and makes the shape he wants.
We went to this shopping center and had lunch at the Pot Luck Club, which was lovely. Sorry, no images.
Poolside at the hotel
The swimming pool right after I finished swimming.
So that is it for today. See you again tomorrow. I hope you aren't getting bored.
Hugs,
Susan
Dry far from bored!
