Cape Town 2025

 Hi,

Now I am in Cape Town, South Africa. It was pretty much a straight shot south from Munich. There was only an hour difference in time, and although I didn't sleep that much on the plane, I stayed awake all of yesterday for the evening's adventures. I met up with Charlie, Linda, Patty, Deborah, Susan Lewin, and Julie Simpson, all Art Jewelry Forum members. This trip was planned by the Renwick group but shared with AJF members. So there were lots of Renwick members too.

I landed at 8 am or so. Beautiful day and lots warmer than Munich.

First of all this hotel is lovely and the people are warm and friendly. Here are a few shots of the hotel but it doesn't really show you the expanse of the place.

The view is stunning

There were several exotic animals around

I had all day to acclimate so I took a swim in the outdoor pool which is not heated but is a perfect temperature after you get over the shock of getting in. Notice the company I had in the pool.... see me in the far background with a hat on. These two ducks just flew in and started making a racket.

Then it was time to join the tour. So after some drinks and introductions, we headed out to the house of  Elbé Coetsee who is the collector of textiles and ceramics and also started a craft community to both train and sell handmade objects from local people. She talked to us a little about what she does and who were the well-known artists in her collection but I hadn't heard of any of them. Here are some shots of her house.

She was kind enough to feed us.

Then it was time to return to the hotel and go to sleep. Yeah!

So that is it for the first day in Cape Town. How did you like it?

Big hugs,
Susan
