Hi,
Well here we are into our 4th day at the Schmuck fair. It was another great day for the AJF talks. These were the speakers:
Jorunn Veiteberg
Evert Nijland
Monica Gaspar with Patricia Domingues (not pictured)
The topics of the talks were as follows: Jorunn spoke about Jewellery in a Time of Rearmament, Eveert spoke of Manus & Machina, and Monica and Patricia discussed The End of Curating. They all had very thoughtful and challenging things to say. You will be able to see them on the AJF website soon. Here are some images of them in mid talk:
But to go back to the beginning of the day, before I went out to the fair, I attended a talk by Khanya Mthethwa, the Susan Beech Award winner from a couple of years ago. She is getting a Phd now in South Africa where she lives. Her talk was titled Avantu: Threads That Bind Us and was based on her research into indigenous knowledge research methods and the coloniality of culture and how the frameworks inform her articic practice especially regarding beadwork and adornment.
Her talk was at the Galerie Handwerk where there was also a show called The Familiar in the Foreign which was in response to the Warwick Freeman show at the Pinakothek der Moderne. Here are some images from the New Zealanders.

There are also tons of other displays at the fair that I have neglected to show you. Maybe on Sunday I will have time to show you a few more things.
As for now, I have to get going to things today, this is Sunday when I am finishing this up.
Hugs to you,
Susan
The variety of jewelry absolutely stuns me…so interesting…..enjoy your last day with it all..
