Hi,
Here are some images from my second day at Marfa. What I have learned is what an incredible man Donald Judd was, not for his artwork but for his development of these spaces to hold his work and others. He has something like 20 buildings in town, plus thousands of acres of land around Marfa he is preserving. The buildings are all beautiful and pristine. I think I like them better than Judd's sculptures- sorry to all you Judd fans out there, but that is just my opinion.
On this day, we took another tour of one of the properties, called The Block. And again, I can't take photos myself, so what you are mostly seeing are images from the Judd Foundation website. You can visit there if you'd like to see more or view videos of the spaces.
Approaching the Block
Gate to the Block
Inside the block looking at the gate we came in
Off to the right of the courtyard above
On the other side of the courtyard behind the building there.
The walls. You can find these walls in all of the places Judd developed.
They are a combination of Adobe interiors and concrete grout.
More of his work
Notice the bed in the corner. Every place we when there were beds.
On the way down the street toward The Block
The granary across the street from The Block
Town Hall
This was on the wall outside the feed store - I liked it.
I hope you all enjoyed going to Marfa with me. I am tired from this trip and glad to be coming home today. See you all soon.
Hugs,
Susan
