Hi again,
Today we took about an hour ride on the train to the city of Solothurn from Zurich to visit Gallery SO. It is run by Felix Flury who previously took us to visit Bernhard Schobinger on Monday. His gallery is in a small old city. Very beautiful.
In the window of the gallery were these 2 vases by Christian Gonzenbach which were old china pieces that had been filled with some kind of metal that expanded and burst out of the vase, cracking it as it expanded and then somehow the artist managed to stop the process at a specific moment. And voila an amazing object filled with energy and mystery.
Of course, Gallery SO shows Bernhard Schobinger. Everything below is by him.
I'm thinking about this one. The spikes are lighting rods which have been gold leafed. There is a screw in place at the top of each one.
Felix wearing the necklace
This is a bracelet cast in gold from a piece of back and then enameled inside.
Deedie wearing the bark braclet. It looks fantastic on.
Now it is time for lunch and we go nearby to this darling place. It's under the grey awning.
The town has really beautiful old buildings. Like these.

We jumped back on the train in Solothurn and made our way to the airport.
So we land in Amsterdam and Damian and I make our way to the hotel. Our hotel is not the elegant Conservatorium where Deedie and Sarah are staying but a more 'reasonable' one close by. So long story short.... although we tried to like it it was just too small and too ratty to stay in and when I discovered that there was no air-conditioning I declared a state of emergency and even though it was 10:30 at night we started searching for a place to stay. Of course, Amsterdam is a popular place this time of year so we struggled with trying to find one that had 2 rooms to rent and that wasn't astronomically expensive. We finally settled on a Raissison Blu - a good old tried and true American corporate hotel with air conditioning, large rooms, and all the conveniences we needed. Phew disaster averted.
So as I settle into bed in my slightly badly designed but luxuriously cool room I bid you a good day.
Hugs,
Susan
