Venice 2022 Day 1

 Hi all,

Ok so I am traveling again and would like to invite you along. I am in Venice for the Biennale which I have been to twice before with my friends Donna and Ralph.

I left last night from SFO and I thought it would be pretty quiet because people had stopped traveling so much now that school was back in session and everyone Zooms to meetings instead of traveling. But I was completely wrong. There were tons of people everywhere.

The waiting area for the gigantic plane I was taking was also full of passengers. We started loading late and I thought how will they get everyone on the plane in time to leave anywhere near schedule. Anyway, a new scanning device blasted everyone through in 15 minutes. Here is a photo of the plane through the window.

Anyway, I made it to Frankfurt and then was there in plenty of time to catch my flight to Venice. The Venice airport had these funny floors.

I didn't sleep very well but I was still awake when I grabbed a water taxi to get to my hotel and a ride in a water taxi would wake up anyone. After being cooped up in a plane with a mask on for hours the fresh air and exhilaration of the speed boat was wonderful.

And then the views start.... I was either exhausted or somehow super high from being here because I just thought everything was extraordinary. I kind of felt like Diane Lockhart in the latest episode of The Good Fight when she is high on a hallucinogenic. Everything was amazingly beautiful.

Approaching the hotel entrance.

We are staying at the Cipriani which is beautiful and on a large (especially for Venice) piece of land with gardens, a pool, and a tennis court.

It even has a cooking school made from pots and pans.

The room is smallish but elegant and Italian.

Donna and Ralph and I had reservations at a restaurant down the way at 7 pm but I was too jet-lagged to make it to dinner that late. We walked down to it anyway to see if they would serve us some negronis and appetizers. Nope. Private party in full swing. So we strolled back towards the hotel and found another place that would give us what we needed. And we were sitting right on the water as the sun was setting and all I can say is I wish you were here to experience it with me. The photos really just don't capture it... but use your imagination and enjoy.

Even the walls and doorways are beautiful.

Panoramic view from my balcony. Piece them together from left to right and you will see what I see.

I have a feeling these blogs will be very photo heavy. I hope that is ok with you.

I'm off to sleep. Back again tomorrow.

Hugs,
Susan
