Lisbon 2024 June 24

 Hi,

Back again for the second day.

First, we walked to a place called Traces of Me and saw a beautiful show using textiles by the team of designers who work with the shop. The dresses, hats, and handbags were also compelling.

 What do you think?

Also hats

And purses

As we walked along these next images were the kinds of things we saw. Colorful buildings often use tile.

And numerous city parks.

And churches

And squares with fountains or statues

Here are 4 buildings in a row with tile.

We took a break while we waited for an Uber ride to our next destination.

Next was a show in the Botanical gardens relating jewelry to flora.

Gold locusts leave floating in clear bowls

A large necklace

And these two creatures were wandering around

Next, we visited the two main shows of the Biennale. One is the tiara show which we will see first. Part of it takes place in the Vault where the jewels, badges, silver services, and other objects of value from Royalty are kept. The vault is huge.

This crown is by Xinyi Chen- so elaborate

These two crowns are made from laughing gas containers. So clever. By Grace Miell.

The necklace is called Flowers and Blades by Marilla Maria Mira

This looks like cardboard but it is silver with gold staples by David Bielander

These are by Daniel Jirkovsky's Crown of Void and Ruudt Peters Suctus Crown

TiAr Co by Lucia Abdenur, Tiara by Luis Torres, and Halo by Carlos Silva

Opium Poppy tiara by Christopher Thompson Royds, Untitled by Tereza Seabra, How does what I think expand inside by Ana Albuquerque

Laurel Wreath by Catarina Silva and Tiara by Typhanine Le Monnier

                                                                      Tiara by Ted Noten

                                                               Tiara by Ana Albuquerque

Untitled by Rui Silva and Untitled by Tamia Dellinger

Tiara of Knowledge by Diana Silva

                                                          Power by Teresa Milheiro

                                                                   Artemis by Joāo Martins

Untitled by Rita Faustino, Extraordinary Piece Number 1 by Nils Hint, and Spiral by Marina Sheetikof

These crowns or tiaras were spread out throughout the vault which also included lots of royal jewels.

This last one is an amazingly clever show of the silver work in the collection with a mirror above and digital guests at the table- in royal outfits of course. They periodically pop up and then disappear.

And then the main show of work by members of PIN the Portuguese group of jewelers curated by Marta Costa Reis head of the organization. The show concentrated on the role women played in the revolution.

And finally one last show at the Design Store where artists were asked to interview and make work related to someone who was born in 1974 the year of the revolution. So the pieces were often displayed on clothes again as in the show at the beginning of the day.

This was on the back of the above photo explaining the person and the jewelry created about them.

And so back to the hotel bar for dinner and then to sleep.

Hugs,
Susan
